Strava acquires FATMAP, an InMotion Ventures portfolio company

We’re thrilled with the announcement that Fatmap, the definitive guidebook to the outdoors, has been acquired by Strava.

Fatmap was the 13th company to join our portfolio back in 2018. Delivering exceptional digital experiences is fundamental to our strategy, and we were highly impressed with Misha and his leadership team’s commitment to building the number one 3D mapping platform for mountain sports.

Strava is the largest sports community in the world, and the perfect partner to help Fatmap realise their vision of making adventures easier to discover and share. With a usership of over 100 million Strava’s goal is to be the digital experience at the centre of active people’s lives. This acquisition allows them to reach a greater range of outdoor enthusiasts – beyond the cycling and running communities where they’re better known.

The Fatmap team will remain intact, with Misha Gopaul moving to the VP of Product position at Strava. The business has committed to enabling Fatmap technology for both free and paid-for members, but have yet to make a decision on whether Fatmap will exist as a standalone product, or become fully integrated into Strava.

Congratulations to the entire Fatmap team for their impressive growth and innovation in a complex and competitive environment. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed being part of their journey and wish them all the best in this exciting new phase of their adventure.
